A three-year-old girl, daughter of a labourer lost her eyesight after a heart surgery under Mukhyamantri Baal Hriday Rog Upchaar Yojana. However, the hospital authorities denied the allegations
Jamana Prasad Rathore, a casual labour from Shajapur district came to State capital with a hope of getting his only daughter Sadhna cured, but his hope turned into a nightmare when after the operation Sadhna lost her vision.
Rathore said that Sadhna was born with Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), after initial treatment in Ujjain he gave up due to high cost of treatment. Three years later, when he learned about MBHRCY they applied through Shajapur district collector and got Chirayu hospital and Rs 65,000 for treatment.
Rathore further said that Dr Vikas Goyal and Dr RK Jain carried out the surgery and declared it to be successful but when Sadhna gained consciousness, she was unable to see. When doctors came to know about the situation, they couldn’t explain the reason behind the blindness. He said that his daughter’s vision had no problems till the operation but after the operation, she cannot see anything. The hospital administration did not let them leave hospital and kept his daughter admitted.
Rathore said, “When we asked the hospital staff to discharge her they asked us to give in writing that Sadhna was already blind when she was brought into the hospital for the operation.”
Rathore alleged that hospital administration charged him over Rs 30,000 for medicines and other amenities while Rs 65,000 were already allotted to the hospital under MBHCY. and hospital can not charge any amount from the patients except for the allotted amount.
Chirayu Hospital Director Dr Ajay Goenka said that ASD operation of Sadhna was carried out in the hospital and after around 10 days visual problems with the patient occurred. The reasons behind the visual problems have not been diagnosed as it is not clear whether it already existed. Dr Goenka further said the hospital administration is concerned about the girl and is carrying out her treatment free of cost.
