'Threat' to burqa-clad girls at exam in school alleged

Published on:

Taking strong note of the misbehaviour with the burqa and Hijab wearing Muslim girls in a city school during the twelfth class board examination, the Muslim community has registered strong protest with the District Education Officer (DEO) through Bhopal Shahar Qazi Syed Mushtaq Ali Nadvi.

Shahar Qazi Nadvi in a letter to the DEO said, “I am in receipt of several complaints from the community members that Anand Vidya Mandir School in Jehangirabad locality of the city is misbehaving with the burqa and Hijab wearing Muslim girls reaching to appear in the 12th class examination.

The school administration is forcing the Burqa and Hijab wearing girls to remove it else they are being threatened that they would not be allowed to appear in the examination.”

Shahar Qazi Nadvi further said that the behaviour of the School administration is totally against rules and is injustice to the minority community girls.

If there is fear of copying in the examination then the school administration can get the students searched by any female teacher or another female staff. But the kind of tactics adopted by the school is incorrect and is causing anger among the community, he added.

He said, “I request you to instruct the schools to stop bothering Muslim girls like this and if any school continues to adopt these tactics than their examination centre should be snatched besides taking strong action against them as per the law so that the atmosphere could be stopped from getting vitiating and the Muslim girls could appear in examination without any fear and pressure.”

Former Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee spokesman Arif Masood while talking to The Pioneer over the issue said, “Anand Vidya Mandir is not the only school that is adopting these tactics to harass the Muslim girls, many other schools in the state capital and other parts of the state are doing such things.

We would call on the secretary board of secondary education with demand to take strong action against such schools else we would

be compelled to register protest on roads besides taking legal action against the board and schools concerned.”
