'Theatre requirements different from TV acting'

Acting on television screen on fictional stories by great writers is far more different from what we do in theatres,” says a young and a brilliant theatre artist of the city Shavez Sikander.

Known for his outstanding performance in the play ‘Ek Thug Ki Dastaan’ as the protagonist of the play, Shavez has created a niche for himself in the theatre industry. He had worked with renowned theatre directors like Javed Zaidi, Nizam Patel, Ahmed Khan and even more. Not only this, but he has also grabbed applauses for his performance by performing across the country.

Recently he would be seen playing six different characters in television soap ‘Kutubkhana’. The soap is based on short stories by Sadaat Hassan Manto, Premchand and many more in which Sikander would be seen playing important roles. Further, he has also assisted in the television soap. Kutubkhana is directed by a renowned television and Bollywood actor KK Raina.

“Working with KK Raina has been a great experience for me. He has been a great mentor and a wonderful person to work with,” Sikander added. He further said, “We have shot the soap in Mumbai. It was a learning experience for me as I have worked with the professional artists from Mumbai. Their experience and their skills proved very much helpful for me.”

On asking about the experience of performing the stories on screen which are usually performed in theatres, Sikander said, “Well, such stories are usually performed in theatres, it’s true, but performing the same on screen is more fun. We have to stabilize out voice modulation, body language and everything else. Further, in theatres there are no re-takes but on screen each and every bit should meet the perfection so getting into the same mood during the re-take was a hurdle to deal with.”

Shavez Sikander feels really contended to work with KK Raina as well as he has bagged another achievement for his career. The soap will be aired on DD Urdu here from Thursday.
