The theatre buffs of the city witnessed the years old theatre form Patiya Goi on Kaif Bhopali’s life staged here on Sunday at Shaheed Bhavan.
This traditional theatre form was introduced by Adakar theatre group. Notably, Patiya Goi is a form of Dastan-e-Goi. The Dastan-e-Goi art refers to the art of storytelling; it is a compound of two Persian words Dastan and goi which means to tell a Dastan.
Here on Sunday the traditional art form was blended with the Bhopali tehzeeb of the traditional Patiyaz and the story of Kaif Bhopali was told to the theatre buffs of the city. Bringing in the dialect of Bhopal and tradition was all mesmerising for the audience to watch.
Notably, the Patiya Goi was staged under a grand event Yaadien Kaif organised by Madhya Pradesh Urdu Academy. The event was an amalgamation of various events including the Ghazal event, poetry recitals, discussions on the writings of Kaif and more.
The Patiya Goi by Adakar was the attraction of the event. The life span of Kaif Bhopali was narrated in the act and all the events that took place in his life left the audience enthralled with wondrous performance. It was directed by Farrukh Sher Khan and was finely written by renowned playwright Rafi Shabbir.
The untold and rare facts about Kaif were beautifully put forward by the young actors on stage. The act began with young people gathering on stage talking about Kaif. They also performed the songs by Kaif from the Mughal-e-Azam era.
Shabbir informed that dastans were epics, often oral in nature, which were recited or read aloud and in essence, were like medieval romances everywhere. Telling tales of adventure, magic and warfare, Dastans mapped new worlds and horizons, encountered the unseen and protected the hero through many travails and lovers as he moved on his quest.
In the process of telling the story the narrators freely borrowed tropes and themes from other stories. It was too mesmerising to witness a refined and rich event about the legendry writer and poet Kaif Bhopali.
