The theatre buffs of the city laughed their hearts out while watching the play ‘Khubsurat Bahu’. Romantic but frustrated groom, simpleton yet possessive aunt, the flirtatious and flattering village youth and the caricature of an Ox together created a whirl of laughter on stage.
The play was performed on Monday at Antarang Hall, Bharat Bhavan observing the Madhya Pradesh Rangotsav 2017.
Directed by Sanjay Tenguriya it was wonderfully performed by Intellectual Public Welfare and training for art society, Harda. ‘Khubsurat Bahu’ features the status of a daughter-in-law in a family which was portrayed by showcasing the relationship between a husband and a wife and relatives.
Notably, the play is an adaptation of a story with the same name, written by a renowned writer Nag Bodas. It is a satirical comedy on the common superstitious beliefs and over exaggeration of little knowledge.
Based on the overestimation and submission of the beauty of a bride the play revolves around a family. Chachi is the head of the family. She is widowed in her young days and so loves her nephew a lot.
She wishes for a beautiful bride for her nephew Hari and finds a perfect match for him in Suman. Suman on the other hand is intelligent young beauty who lives in Dhaulpur.
Finally, Chachi gets Hari and Suman married. As Suman enters her in-laws house Chachi tries to make friendly relationship between her and Suman which on the other hand disturbed Suman and Hari’s relationship.
This was not all, but a flirt lakhan starts stocking Suman. To revenge lakahn’s act Hari stocks lakahan’s wife Basanti. On the other hand Basanti want to take revenge from Suman and everything falls as a mess. There was a strong role of an Ox in the play.
The light-heart comedy and brilliant performance by the artists made the audience enjoy the play a lot.
