An exhibition of cartoons ‘The Tiger Speaks’ by Hariom Tiwari was inaugurated here on Friday at Alliance Francaise de Bhopal’s Art Gallery. The exhibition was inaugurated by Tapan Bhowmik, Chairman, MP Tourism Development Corporation. With the theme of ‘tiger conservation’ carttonist Hariom Tiwari has tried to show the current scenario of tigers and how the human world is destroying them.

On asking about the theme, Tiwari said, “The supreme duty of a cartoonist is to speak on behalf of those who can neither speak for themselves nor complain. The tiger is such a large hearted gentleman who is silently facing multiple challenges and miseries. The media keeps on reporting about Tigers losing their habitat and entering the urban areas as if they request – Please let us stay with you.”

As cartoonist, Hariom imagines the social behavior of a Tiger family and find that they like Humans. like Humans, they have issues and problems. What George Bernard Shay said years ago is more relevant today, “When a Man wants to murder a Tiger, he calls it sport, when Tiger wants to murder him, he calls it ferocity.”

Elaborating further he said, “My mentor, the legendary cartoonist RK laxman told me once that cartoons have something beyond humour. They caution about behavioral disorders, infirmities and follies. The sole purpose of this exhibition is to give voice to the Tiger because it is time to stand with them, give them a chance to survive and correct ourselves.”The exhibition was a mass treat for the art lovers. Apart from giving out a message, the colourful cartoons were beautifully created over canvas that left the spectators enthralled.

Besides, apart from the exhibition, there will also be a free workshop on cartoons on Saturday at 4 pm. The workshop too is open for all.
