A tense situation unfolded late Friday night in Mandideep after a truck carrying buffaloes was intercepted by a group of local residents near the National Highway in front of Galla Mandi. The truck, allegedly on its way to a slaughterhouse in Bhopal, was stopped around 10:45 PM, sparking an uproar when a large number of buffaloes were found tightly packed inside.
Members of the Hindu community, who were part of the group that intercepted the truck, unloaded the animals and began raising religious slogans, including "Jai Shri Ram," which further fueled tensions in the area. As the news spread, both Hindu and Muslim community members gathered near the scene, escalating the situation.
The local authorities, led by SDOP Sheela Surana, were quick to respond, with police teams from Mandideep and Satlapur police stations arriving at the scene. By midnight, the crowd had moved to the Mandideep police station, where slogans continued, intensifying the atmosphere.
SDOP Sheela Surana took immediate steps to defuse the situation by inviting representatives from both communities to the police station for dialogue. As tensions mounted, Additional SP Kamlesh Kharpuse also arrived at the scene. To prevent any further escalation, a heavy police presence was deployed in sensitive areas, with vigilant patrolling continuing until 3:00 AM. Traffic on the National Highway was temporarily diverted to ease congestion caused by the gathering.
Suresh Yadav, the district convenor of the Hindu Jagran Manch, distanced the organization from the incident, clarifying that the truck was stopped by local individuals, and no official members of the organization were present. Leaders from the Muslim community also called for calm, with Sohail Khan, Chairman of the Waqf Management Committee, stating that although the situation was tense, the administration had handled it effectively. No formal complaints have been lodged so far.
According to Altaf, Chairman of the Festival Committee, the truck was transporting "bodh" (pada) from Itarsi to Bhopal when it was stopped by a group of individuals who assaulted the driver and forcibly released the buffaloes.
Police have not confirmed the registration of any FIR or arrests as of now. However, SDOP Sheela Surana assured that legal proceedings are underway against those involved in the incident. Given the proximity to Eid celebrations, additional police forces have been stationed across key areas in Mandideep, and regular patrolling is being carried out to ensure peace.
Thanks to the prompt response of the police, the situation in Mandideep is now under control, and while tensions have eased, the area remains under watch to maintain public order.
