Eight people, along with the main accused, were arrested in connection with murder of 17-year-old youth during a fight over water between two families. Four people who were injured are reportedly critical after the Teela Jamalpura incident late on Friday.
According to the police, the victim, Dileep Panthi, was standing in queue for water with four members of his family and objected to Gabbar, alias Dhanala Panthi, pushing ahead of them. The two families started a heated argument, which turned physical after many others jumped into the fray and used iron rods and sharp weapons to attack each other.
Panthi was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon by Gabbar. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but succumbed to his injuries. Panthi’s aunt Shagun also sustained multiple injuries while others were hurt too.
A complaint against 10 miscreants — including two women — was lodged with the Teela Jamalpura Police. A case under Section 302 of the IPC has been lodged and the body sent for post-mortem.
locals of Teela Jamalpura depend on one water tank. Every night, after the municipality fills the tank up, the 100-odd families stand in long queues for a few buckets. Bhopal North Superintendent of Police Arvind Saxena said it was about scarcity of water. As the area is densely populated, the tussle to fill water ahead of others blossoms into frequent fights.
