The Swarnim Vijay Varsh Mashaal entered the Central Command Area of Responsibility (AOR) and reached Mhow from Nagpur on September 18.
The “Victory Flame” - commemorating India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war - was received on behalf of Lt Gen Y Dimri, General officer commanding in Chief, Central Command with full military honours.
Army personnel and children of various schools welcomed the Victory Flame at DSOI Square and led the entourage along the Mall Road to a grand reception at the Infantry Memorial. The entire stretch was decorated with flowers, banners and buntings. Service personnel and their families, NCC cadets, civilians and school children proudly cheered the Victory Flame with ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ and waved the Tri colour flags to welcome the Flame.
The flame was given a splendid reception at the Infantry Memorial and placed on a decorated pedestal. It was presented with a Guard of Honour and Station Commander Mhow laid a wreath on behalf of the Mhow Cantonment.
Later, the Flame was kept at the memorial for everyone to pay their respects while the military band played various patriotic tunes. The public at large, schoolchildren and NCC cadets were all seen busy taking pictures and savoring the historic moment.
