Protesting against police, for protecting the guilty, family members of a 48-year-old man who committed suicide by setting himself ablaze late in the night on July 16 at Berkhedi Square demanded action against those who used to harass the deceased.
Family members of Bhagwandas Yadav who died while undergoing treatment at Hamidia on Saturday staged protest by keeping his body at Berkhedi square in the morning.
SHO Jehangirabad Anil Vajpayee said that the family members earlier claimed in their statements that the deceased got ablaze while refilling petrol in auto rickshaw but after the death they alleged that deceased committed suicide due to harassment. He also denied the fact that the family members have not staged any protest.
The deceased set himself ablaze at 1 o’clock in the night on July 16 and was rushed to Hamidia hospital where he died during treatment on Saturday.
After the death family members alleged that corporator Dinesh Yadav and his brother Vishal Yadav used to harass him and staged protest at Berkhedi square by keeping the body at around 10 in the morning on Sunday. The protestors were pacified after police intervened and assured that investigation would be done in the matter. The deceased used to work as auto rickshaw driver.
After the preliminary investigation the body was sent for the post mortem but when the family members found that the police are trying to protect and not willing to investigate the matter they staged protest. The police have registered a case under section 174 of the CrPC and started further investigation.
