Set in the pastoral backdrop, embedded with the innocence and purity of Sufiayana qalams, the three day Qawwali concert left the audience beguiled.

The Bhopalites had a delightful experience while shopping at the National Khadi Utsav 2015, Gauhar Mahal as they witnessed rhythmically beautiful Qawwalis live in concert. Organized by Madhya Pradesh Urdu Academy, the three day event is dedicated purely to Sufi music. The concert began here from Tuesday. The evening was unwrapped with the enchanting performance by Fakar-e-Madhya Pradesh Munnawar Masoom. Notably, Masoom is known for his works across the country. He has not only worked with the dynamic music personality AR Rehman but has also has put his works with Shankar Mahadevan, Asha Bhosle, Ghulam Ali and Salim Sulaiman into his credits.Hailing from Bhopal, Munnawar Masoom seemed really excited to perform before the Bhopalites.

He began the series of his performances with the latest Coke Studio song ‘Bismillah’. The pick up by him was warmly welcomed by the Bhopal audience.

Talking with The Pioneer, Masoom said, “I was accompanied by Kailash Kher in Coke Studio and we performed this nazm together. So I wanted to perform this nazm even here.” Talking more about Qawwalis he said, “Sufi Qalam are adorned with pleasing poerty and lyrics. Few years back people were seemingly going away from this genre. But if we look upon the contemporary situation, the youngsters are more inclined towards Sufi music. They listen, they improvise it and they also learn it which is one of the best things happening today.”
