The struggle of Rani laxmi Bai and Tatya Tope against the British rule was seen in a play ‘Veer Virangana’ here on Friday at Shaheed Bhawan. The play was a part of a two-day theatre festival ‘Veer Virangana’ that would conclude on Saturday.
Directed by Irfan Saurabh, the play was staged by the students of Anand Vihar College for Women. The festival is being organized jointly by Directorate of Swaraj Santhan and Pallav Organisation to enhance the acting skills in the students.
The play portrayed the life span of Rani laxmi Bai and Tantya Tope as they fought against the Britishers. The play was presented in a poetic form. The compilation of Bundelkhandi songs and poems ‘Alha Udal’ added more zeal in the presentation of the play.
The play begins with showing Rani laxmi Bai at her fort with Tatya Tope during the first war of Independence. As the uprising of 1857 was at its boom, Rani laxmi Bai and Tatya Tope also became a part of the struggle with the Indian soldiers and revolted against the Britishers.
Basically, historical and mythological plays and programmes are performed at Shaheed Bhavan. While talking about the play, director Irfan Saurabh said, “The year 1857 was an important event in the freedom struggle of the country. This play was performed to stage an untold story of the history.” He further said that this year created awareness among the people of the country. This play was staged with musical narration to make the events taking place more interesting.
The hard work of the students performing for the first time on stage was appreciated. Principal of Anand Vihar College for women Madhu Mishra along with the Chairperson of the college were present as the special guests at the show.
