Students' detention in PMT scam illegal: Katare

Published on:

The students detained by the police in the PMT scam without registering any case and have not been produced in the court after their detention for about five days, said the leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly, Satyadev Katare during his visit to the Mahila police station here.

He had gone to the police station to meet the girl students who were illegally detained, but before Katare reached there, the students were sent away.

The leader of the Opposition criticized the illegal and inhuman treatment meted out to the girl students who were detained and no case has been registered against the students which is illegal as the detainees have to be produced in the court within 24 hours of their detention.

Students are being treated as criminals. They have not been even named in the whole incident. The influential people are still in the safe zone and the students are paying for it, he added.

When he asked regarding the girl students City Superintendent of Police Jehangirabad Saleem Khan replied that the STF took them for questioning. Katare alleged that they were hinted regarding his visit due to which they took away the

girl students.

At the first place the students were detained like criminals and were treated like criminals. The Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission and State Woman Rights Commission have also expressed their displeasure over the inhuman conditions in which the suspect students were kept and ADG STF has been directed to provide report on the whole incident.

The detention of the students by the STF which took place around 5 days ago attracted ire across the state and Congress which lacks the vigor to attack the BJP has grabbed the opportunity and intensified its attack.
