Students claim anomalies in seat allotment

Officials at the Barkatullah University (BU) had a tough time on Friday, explaining students about the allotment of seats in the University Teaching Department (UTDs).

The University had allotted seats of UTDs to the students on Thursday through a newly introduced online admission and counseling process. Meanwhile, many students complained that there  were loopholes in the allotment process. Students alleged that students with lower percentage in graduation were allotted seats while others with higher percentage were still made waiting for allotment. Applicants are approaching the UTDs and administrative wing of the university seeking explanation for the irregularity.

Payal Singh, a student seeking admission in MSc Physics of BU, complained, “Aspirants of my category having lower percentage than me in graduation have been allotted seats while I have not been allotted seat. When I enquired about it university staff is saying that extra marks have been added to their results for their achievements in extracurricular activities.”

University staffs are facing problem in explaining the applicants that the allotment has been carried out by mponline.com web portal and university has no saying in the allotment process. Student with lower percentage being allotted seats is due to the grace percentage for achievement in extracurricular, sports and NCC activities have been added to the percentage of graduation of students.

It is worth mentioning that University had introduced the online admission system for admission in UTDs like Department of Higher Education (DHE) system for admissions in colleges. DHE had ordered all the universities of the state to carry out admission in UTDs through online admission process only.

BU Registrar Sanjay Tiwari said that the whole admission process is computerised and merit has been determined through computer only. He said students who are crying foul are not able to understand the weightage system. The admission process is completely fair and transparent, he claimed.
