The Transport department is considering tightening the noose on the functioning of buses, mini-buses and other vehicles with schools and colleges across the State.

There have been several complaints that these vehicles are plying illegally on the roads without following traffic rules and regulations. Soon, this is going to be problematic for them and Transport department will take strong action against them.

Transport Department officers are receiving regular complaints that the bus owners are using buses under transporting passengers for their own benefits.

These selfish acts of bus owners are also making great loss in generating revenue to transport departments. All this was taken seriously by Transport Commissioner Shailendra Shrivastava.

He has given strong instructions to RTO and DTO to conduct stern checking of educational institutions buses and seize the buses which are not following the traffic rules. Reports should be sent to headquarters by January 10 regarding this work. later the Transport Minister will review it in the meeting.

Under the Motor Vehicle Act 1988 section 2(11), the educational institutions bus was defined. In Madhya Pradesh Act 1991 the first clause is that educational institutions the tax is `12 per seat should be charged.

For the comfort of students less tax was implemented. Most of the buses are under the institutional lease and they pay the tax according to `12 per seat, whereas these buses are carrying passengers.

Transport Commissioner Shailendra Shrivastava has instructed RTO and DTO to send the notice to educational institutions of their areas so that they if any bus operator who is unduly taking the advantage of lease and running his bus for carrying passengers then they should be ready to face action.
