The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) general body meeting held on Thursday was stormy as not only the Opposition benches walked out but the power galleries also stormed into the well of the House to lodge opposition with the chair. Though at the end of the day, the meet ended on the pleasant note as all the proposals brought up by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) including sewage network and streetlights of the city were cleared.

The issue of water was raised again with full might by the Congress Corporators while the BJP Corporators expressed their angst over Congress Corporators breaking pots before the Chairman during the last meeting that was postponed due to ruckus by the opposition. Angry over Congress’ behavior the BJP Corporators staged sit-in before the chair demanding apology from the opposition. After about an hour’s drama over the issue the Congress Corporators Party tendered apology and after that the meeting restarted.

The meeting hardly ran smoothly for some time when both the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress started quarrel over the issue of water. The Congress Corporators were of the view that action plan was made for smooth water supply in the city, under it water tanks were also placed at many places but no arrangement was made to fill these tanks. Peoples at many places in the city are wandering for water and the BMC officials are keeping mum over it.

Mayor Alok Sharma reached late in the meeting due to bad health, in his absence chairman of the BMC Surjeet Singh Chouhan conducted the proceedings of the house.

Chouhan observing ruckus told the opposition members to take on the listed agenda first and assured that after that issue of water would be taken for discussion.

After discussions over the listed agenda the house cleared the construction of sewage network and street lights for the city.
