Stir against 'police atrocities' top on Congress' agenda now

The Congress’ focus seems to have shifted from transfer of Katni’s Superintendent of Police (SP) in hawala case to alleged police atrocities against its State party leaders in the wake of Monday’s cane-charge.

Throughout day on Tuesday, Congress leaders were busy chalking out strategy and holding protests against Monday’s lathi-charge in which PMCC Chief Arun Yadav and others had reportedly suffered injuries.

The spotlight from holding State Minister Sanjay Pathak responsible for IPS Gaurav Tiwari’s transfer was missing. The Congress is now targeting RBI to lodge its protest against demonetisation.

The demonstration of NSUI led by PCC Chief Arun Yadav, NSUI national president Amrita Dhawan and Mahila Congress national president Shobha Oza was a success with the police resorting to cane-charging on the activists.

In the cane-charging Arun Yadav was reportedly injured seriously and he is still in a private hospital recuperating. However, after the Congress leaders came to know that an FIR of rioting has been registered against Yadav and Congress members, it was decided to burn effigy of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in several districts of the State.

Rajya Sabha member from Madhya Pradesh Vivek Tankha, who arrived here in the evening from New Delhi, also declined to comment on MSME Minister Sanjay Pathak against whom the Congress had demonstrated on Monday. He told media persons that people are speaking the name of those involved in the Katni hawala case.

“Since, there is no documentary evidence, I cannot name him,” he added.

Political observers feel that amidst the news that former Union Minister Kamal Nath could replace Yadav in Madhya Pradesh, Yadav participated in the Monday’s demonstration and got injured.

After meeting Yadav in hospital, Tankha reached the PCC headquarters and addressed a meeting of party leaders. Party sources said that a strategy was chalked out regarding Wednesday’s scheduled demonstration at Reserve bank of India (RBI). Former Union Minister and general secretary of the AICC Mukul Wasnik is coming on Wednesday.
