Acting on recommendation of Seoni district Collector, the Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission (MPHRC) removed ‘Ayog Mitra’ in the district.
Notably, the Commission appoints volunteers as ‘Ayog Mitra’, on honorarium for protection and promotion of human rights in districts.
These Ayog Mitra works under guidance of the Commission in their respective districts and their main work includes forwarding applications of the human rights violation of their area to the Commission and at times coordinates with the district administration on the directives of the Commission to play role in awareness programs.
The Ayog Mitras are made aware with their responsibilities at the time of their nominations. If any of the Ayog Mitra is found violating the terms or acting against the directives of the Commission they are immediately removed of their responsibilities.
A similar case pertaining to Seoni came into knowledge of the Commission that the Ayog Mitra Santosh Chobe made objectionable comments against a probationary IAS officer harming her dignity on WhatsApp. The IAS officer concerned filed a complaint against the Ayog Mitra and a case in related sections of the IPC was registered against him and he was arrested and later released on bail.
Collector Seoni wrote to the Commission to remove Choube providing complete details of the case.
The Commission after going through the letter and verifying the facts from the newspapers and other sources came to the conclusion that the Ayog Mitra’s conduct was against the dignity of the Commission and that such a person should not remain in the role of the Ayog Mitra hence the Commission immediately removed Choube from the post and all the officials concerned including Secretary GAD Bhopal, Commissioner and IG Jabalpur and SP Seoni have been informed of the decision.
