Tall claims of the district administration to maintain cleanliness in Kshipra River, fell flat on Friday after a team of the MP Pollution Control Board inspected the river and found nullahs are contaminating the river at several places.

Bakirali Rangwala has filed a petition in the High Court raising the issue of Kshipra river’s purification. On the directions of the Court, a team of the Board inspected 40 per cent of the areas in the city where the river passes through and found that a dozen of nullahs are mixing filth in the river.

The pollution control board officials would inspect the remaining areas on Saturday. The petitioner along with officials of pollution control board from Bhopal including Regional Officer of Ujjain PK Trivedi, assistant officer SK Sanghi conducted the inspection in the afternoon.

First, they saw nullah at Ramvasa village where the filth covered with mud and water was flowing into the river freely. In Raghopipaliya, the nullah was blocked by a pit which overflows when gets filled and flows into the river. There were three horse power pumping motors available, but unable to drain out the water from the pit.

At Mothinagar, the contaminated water was blocked by using a pit. At the river, the nullahs coming from Kshipra Vihar, Triveni Vihar and Adarsh Nagar the dirty water of the nullah was blocked using mud, but it could not control the filth entering to the river. Near CHl Apollo, the nullah was stopped by digging three pits. Under the bridge, the contaminated water was found flowing in the river.

The nullah in front of Gawghat and the waste water from the treatment plant goes directly into the river. Seeing this official from pollution control board gave strict direction to the officials of Ujjain and PHE.

A dead pig was found in the river at Hamukhedi in Kumariya village, where Kshipra enters the town. Two dirty nullahs were also getting mixed directly in the river. In last fourteen years Kshipra is getting dirtier day by day.

Rangwala had filed a petition in 1998 at High Court for Kshipra Purification and that was abrogated in 2002 and administration promised High Court that the canals will be closed and the Kshipra will be purified. Still after 14 years the condition is getting deteriorated.
