Voluntary organisations working for the cause of gas victims have alleged that the State Government has failed to manage its hospitals in the State capital and is trying to take over the super-specialty Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC), which is run by the Central Government.
While talking to the mediapersons on Tuesday, voluntary organisation Bhopal Gas Peedit Mahila Udyog Sangathan (BGPMUS) convener Abdul Jabbar alleged that apart from eyeing the super-specialty BMHRC and property of other hospitals, the State Government is also trying to gobble up BMHRC corpus fund, instead of focusing on improving standards of the existing hospitals and better treatment to the victims of the gas tragedy.
He further alleged that Shivraj Singh Chouhan Government has been insensitive towards plight of gas victims. Thousands of patients visit these hospitals every day and the State Government is now planning to take over the BMHRC and shift Sultania Hospital into the Kamla Nehru Hospital, with little regard to court’s directions.
Terming the purported plan of Shivraj Singh Chouhan government as whimsical, Jabbar said that it is whimsical decision. “The aim to shift the historic Sultana Hospital into Kamla Nehru Hospital or vice versa, shows the intention of the Government. Already, the State Government-run hospitals are in a bad shape. But Government has been totally apathetic towards nearly 1.5 lakh people who are suffering from after affects of the gas tragedy,” he said.
“The officials who are involved in such decisions must realise that the State Government has not been listening to the courts and are guilty of the contempt, which may land them in jail”, he said. Abdul Jabbar, Hamida Bi and Shanti Devi jointly told that the citizens and gas victims associations of Bhopal will not let this proposal be successful.
Association has also sent a letter to the Gas Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Vishwas Sarang. The association demanded that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan should reject this proposal.
