All factions of Madhya Pradesh Congress are united to save Congress MLA Umang Singhar, against whom an FIR was registered for abetment to suicide.
Gandhwani MLA and the former Minister Umang Singhar was booked by police couple of days ago in connection with the suicide of his woman friend, Sonia Bharadwaj, who hanged herself at MLA’s residence in Shahpura area in Bhopal.
Meanwhile woman’s family including her son has given clean chit to the MLA and has urged the administration to withdraw the police case lodged against the former Minister.
Former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh and several senior leaders met MPCC chief Kamal Nath at latter’s residence in Bhopal on Thursday and devised a strategy to oppose ‘politically motivated’ FIR on Singhar, nephew of late Dy CM Jamuna Devi.
Statements of family members of the deceased have vindicated that Singhar has been booked by police without concrete evidence, said Nath, adding, "I urge CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan not to see the matter with political angle."
Several former ministers and MLAs were present in the meeting.
Five MLAs including party working president Jitu Patwari had called on DGP and termed the action against Singhar politically motivated. Bharadwaj a Haryana native who came in touch with the MLA through a matrimonial portal had hanged herself at latter’s bungalow on May 16 and the police had booked Singhar for abetment of suicide the next day.
Calling the evidence inconclusive, the MLA too has written to the IG seeking a magisterial probe into the death of his friend.
Singhar is a prominent tribal face of the party which is trying to avoid an impression that he has been left alone in the need of crisis at personal front. The police are yet to arrest Singhar.
Sources claimed that Nath has spoken to the Chief Minister on Thursday and has sought an appointment for meeting on Friday. The MPCC chief is expected to speak to Chouhan on Singhar’s issue and will urge him not to book Congress leaders out of ‘political vendetta’, claimed sources in Congress.
