The State BJP put into dock the Central Government for the massive scam in the agricultural loan waiver scheme alleging that its faulty policies are responsible for the scam.
Alleging that the scam amounts to betrayal of country’s farmers, BJP State president Narendra Singh Tomar said, “The Centre should ensure that the eligible farmers who have been denied the benefits of the scheme should be provided with the benefits, and the officers guilty of committing irregularities should be brought to book without fail.”
“The farmers of this country need justice and not the empty sympathies of the UPA Government. On the name of poor and marginal farmers, the Centre has provided benefits to the undeserving and corrupt. Most of the farmers who have been denied benefit of the scheme are those who lack access to bank and remain in the clutches of cunning moneylenders,” Tomar said.
“In 1993 as well, the Congress Government had tampered with the rules of farm loan waiver scheme and had benefitted companies and businessmen involved in agriculture instead of the farmers. This had resulted in the scenario where 93 per cent of the amount of loan waiver was swallowed by big companies and the small and marginal farmers were completely denied any benefit,” he said.
Tomar alleged that the Congress has emotionally exploited the farmers for electoral benefits by launching the loan waiver scheme in the year 2006-08.
