State asked to increase amount for patients admitted in Govt hospitals

Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission (MPHRC) recommended the State Government to increase the amount paid to the patients admitted in the Government hospitals for food.

MPHRC also recommends paying the salary of casual labours who are working on daily wages.  In the Madhya Pradesh Gazette, it was ordered that patients admitted in hospitals or Community Health Centres (CHCs) should pay amount for food on daily basis. With this, any doctor do not require any pay for patients from his pocket as the amount is fixed Rs 30 per day.

Commission said, "Due to inflation, Rs 30 is not sufficient amount for purchasing nutritious food. The amount should be regularized every year." It is usually witnessed that in government hospitals labors go to the hospital for treatment even when they do not have any earning for the day which forces them to remain empty stomach.

In several cases, doctors used to give some money to the poor patients themselves. After which food payment scheme was introduced in state.

According to the recommendations, the casual labors that are paid oHuman Rights Commissionn daily basis are not able to go for work if they visit hospital for treatment of any disease and did not get paid. So the commission recommended that such casual labors should be paid one day salary from the hospital only.

The State Government should initiate schemes to resolve these issues or make amendments in existing schemes to eradicate this social issue.

State government officers should ensure that these schemes does not only exist in papers but should reach to the poor people, Commission added.
