Spiritual leader Bhaiyyu Maharaj who recently stunned his followers across the country by announcing about his decision on ‘sanyaas’ from social life, on Sunday got candid with this newspaper on the issue saying that he was mulling over his decision to withdraw himself from the public life merely because of double standard in the society on social services and hypocrisy in religion.
“For me, religion is a tool of social engineering to serve the people and the society but for many, religion and social services are platforms to attain personal eminence,” the social reformer said, adding he tried to serve the society, the poor, the downtrodden, the underprivileged with whatever resources he had.
Bhaiyyu Maharaj hailed Madhya Pradesh High Court ruling on denying reservation in promotion in Government jobs. There should be no compromise on merits but at the same time I do favour reservations for those Backward and other classes of people in the society who really need it for their socio-economic alleviation.
Bhaiyyu Maharaj who shot into fame for his role as a peace maker between the veteran social worker Anna Hazare and the then UPA Government and who was instrumental in breaking fast of Hazare against corruption and on the issue of lokpaal, has given thumps up to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with whom he has a very close association since latter’s tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister.
