Former Union Minister Smriti Irani visited the Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain on Thursday, where she performed worship rituals and offered prayers to Lord Mahakal for the prosperity and well-being of the people of the nation.
Irani entered the temple through the silver gate, where she performed various rituals including abhishek (holy bathing of the deity) and worship. She then proceeded to the Nandi Hall, where, following tradition, she chanted the sacred mantra "Om Namah Shivaya" and whispered her wishes into the ear of Nandi, the temple’s revered bull statue.
According to Moolchand Junwal, the Assistant Administrator of the Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple, Irani’s devotion was evident as she took part in the ritual. She adorned her forehead with a vermilion tilak and wore a garland of jasmine flowers around her neck. As she completed the prayers, she passionately chanted “Jai Shri Mahakal” while receiving blessings from the deity. Irani was warmly welcomed and honored by Abhishek Sharma, a representative of the temple management committee.
After her visit, Smriti Irani spoke to the media, saying, "Those who are blessed by Lord Mahakal to receive His darshan are truly fortunate. I consider myself lucky to have had this opportunity. I prayed for families facing difficulties, that they may overcome them and find peace and prosperity. I also prayed for the safety and well-being of the elderly and the younger generation, and for our soldiers and paramilitary forces who sacrifice their lives for the nation. I wish that the blessings of Lord Mahakal reach them, granting them a divine place in His refuge. Additionally, I prayed for the safety of every married woman’s vermilion, symbolizing marital bliss."
She concluded her statement by praising the strength and dedication of women, saying, "Today, women across the country are proving themselves to be the true embodiments of Shakti (divine feminine power)."
Irani’s visit to the temple was a deeply personal and spiritual experience, marking a moment of prayer for peace, prosperity, and the well-being of the nation and its people.
During her visit, Smriti Irani also expressed her admiration for the Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple's rich history and spiritual significance.
