Five women and a man belonging to a social issues awareness group, ‘Kaali Gang’ were on Friday detained at Nadra bus stand after they blackened the faces of a few two-wheeler riders, who were driving without wearing helmets. According to the police, a complaint was lodged with the Hanumanganj police after a woman’s face was blackened by the members of Kaali Gang at Nadra Bus stand square in the afternoon. City Superintendent of Police Hanumanganj Navratan Singh said that the group had neither informed nor taken any permission for the awareness drive and above all gang members were blackening faces of two-wheeler riders, which was completely against the law.
The only male member of the group present at the site was Shailendra Ahirwar. He told police that the group was formed with the aim of spreading awareness among women. The group went too far when members blackened face of a woman scooter rider, who reached police. CSP Singh said that the group members claimed that they were spreading awareness towards use of helmet, but the way they were behaving was not appropriate and if the police would not have taken timely action, the group would have worsened the situation. The group members were having wooden sticks and were using the sticks to stop the two-wheeler riders. A case was registered after the two-wheeler riders lodged a complaint with the Hanumanganj police. The police have registered a case under section 147,148, 151 and 341 of IPC. The gang has around 100 members and has kept the name after goddess Kaali Mata, told one of the members of the gang.
