The Madhya Pradesh police wants the court hearing of the banned SIMI operatives through video-conferencing. They would soon seek permission in this regard from the district court, especially after the recent incident in which SIMI members raised inflammatory slogans against Narendra Modi in Bhopal.
Madhya Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Nandan Dube, however, said the incident was just an attempt by the accused to gain media attention. While talking to media persons here on Tuesday, Dube said, "Whenever SIMI activists look at the media cameras, they start shouting. The basic aim behind their act is to get media's attention and they have made such an attempt earlier also."
To prevent such incidents, police have already sent a proposal to the State Government for providing video-conferencing facility in Central jail for conducting hearing in sensitive matters.
He said a case has been registered in this regard against banned outfit Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) activist Abu Faisal and others and appropriate action will be taken against them.
On Saturday, Faisal along with other SIMI operatives had allegedly raised inflammatory slogans against Modi while they were being taken back to jail from a court in Bhopal. Taking the matter seriously, police had registered a case against the SIMI operatives under sections 153B (Imputations, assertions prejudicial to national-integration), 295A (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings) and 34 (common intention) of IPC in this regard.
