Madhya Pradesh State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has on Friday issued notices to Collectors of Dindori and Damoh districts to submit a report within 15 days regarding apparent failure of the administration to provide clean drinking water in remote villages of these districts.
SHRC Joint Director (PRO) Rohit Mehta informed that acting Chairman of SHRC Justice AK Saxena took suo moto notice of the matter after watching on news channels two incidents that were aired recently.
The first incident relates to Bhanwarkhandi village in Dindori district. According to the PRO it was shown in the news that young girls were entering into a well by holding iron rods attached to wall to collect water. The girls had small vessels to collect water and pour it into a bucket that was lowered by someone outside the well.
The girls had to take this risk because there was very less water in the well and apparently there is no other water source in the village.
“The Chairperson was enraged to see this and he has written in his order that the incident shows serious administrative lapse due to which people are deprived of even drinking water and also that the officers responsible are not sensitive to the needs of common people,” the PRO told.
The second incident is about Padhri village in Damoh district where the news channel showed that people were collecting water from a dirty drain.
“The commission has issued notices to the Collector of Damoh and Executive Engineer of Public Health Engineering Department to submit a report informing about the officers who are responsible for non-availability of clean water in the village,” the PRO further told.
