Shot in the arm for AAP: NBA leader Alok, activists join party

The Aam Aadmi Party received a shot in the arm on Wednesday when hundreds of Narmada Bachao Andolan activists joined the AAP along with NBA leader Alok Agrawal.

Announcing the development at a Press conference here, Agrawal said that he is desirous of contesting from Khandwa lok Sabha constituency and already conveyed his wish to the AAP. “The AAP has embarked on a successful endeavour to place political power in the hands of the common man and bring fresh light to his life. The party also showed that in a short span of time it fulfilled promises made to commoners and it follows up its words with action,” he said.

Thousands of other NBA activists would join the AAP in the near future, Agrawal said, alleging that the insensitive attitude of both the central and state regimes towards the common man’s woes  particularly vis-a-vis oustees of the Indira Sagar, Maheshwar, Omkareshwar and other similar projects compelled him to take the decision to enter active politics.

To a query regarding whether NBA bigwig Medha Patkar would join the AAP, he pointed out that she already extended support to the party and would take a decision at the appropriate juncture. “Khargone’s Congress Parliamentarian Arun Yadav, who was recently elevated as that party’s Madhya Pradesh President, did nothing for oustees. It is his job to raise such issues in the lower House as we are merely agitators,” Agrawal said.

His targets are to spread AAP influence in tribal areas and soon launch a major agitation for rehabilitating the displaced.
