Shokat Mohammed Khan was on Monday elected as the Mutawalli member of the Madhya Pradesh Waqf Board whereas the election for the board member from Bar Council was suspended on technical grounds and the matter was forwarded to the government for guidance.
There are total of 114 Mutawalli in the state and from them one member is elected in the board as its member. On Monday election for the same was held in which 102 Mutawalli casted their vote, 5 votes were rejected. Khan emerged victorious by getting 52 votes while his opponents Riyaz Khan got 15, Muneer Ahmed got 18 and Saleem Kabadi and Iqbal Zaidi got one vote each.
Election for one board member from the Bar Council was also scheduled for today. The Bar has 2 Muslim members and both of them field nominations due to that election could not be held. Therefore the matter was forwarded to the government for further guidance.
