Shocking humiliation of minor in Bhopal captured on video, no arrests yet

Published on:

In a deeply disturbing incident from the Gautam Nagar area of the state capital, a minor was brutally assaulted, stripped, and publicly humiliated by a group of youths, who filmed the attack and circulated the video on social media. The viral footage has triggered widespread public outrage and demands for immediate action.

The video shows the minor being beaten with slippers and shoes, slapped repeatedly, and forced to chant slogans including “Arbaaz bhai hamare baap hai” ("Arbaaz bhai is our father")—a coercion meant to further humiliate the victim.

Following the emergence of the video, Gautam Nagar police registered an FIR against two named accused—Arbaaz Sheikh and Shanu Kokta—under multiple sections related to assault, criminal intimidation, and cybercrime. However, no arrests have been made so far.

Investigations have revealed that the incident took place approximately a month ago, though it only came to light after the video was widely circulated online in recent days. Preliminary findings suggest the assault was retaliatory in nature, reportedly carried out in revenge for an earlier attack on accused Shanu Kokta outside a local jail. The minor was allegedly targeted for his suspected involvement in that incident.

The act of filming and disseminating the video appears to have been a calculated attempt to publicly shame the victim and assert dominance, raising serious concerns about the misuse of social media to glorify violence and deepen trauma for victims.

The viral nature of the video has led to sharp criticism from citizens and child rights activists, who are demanding swift arrests and strict punishment for the accused. The case has reignited debates around youth violence, vigilante justice, and the need for stronger cyber surveillance and regulation of violent content online.

Police officials have stated that efforts are ongoing to identify other individuals involved in the assault and to bring all perpetrators to justice. Meanwhile, the case continues to stir concern across the city, highlighting the urgent need to address the rising culture of public violence being broadcast for digital notoriety.
