Shame: Gwalior tops in crimes against women

Published on:

Contrary to the claim of Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government of Madhya Pradesh over women’s safety in the State, the latest statistics of the National Crime Record s Bureau (NCRB) has once again shamed the State with Gwalior topping the chart of crime against women while two other cities of the State - Jabalpur and Bhopal - figuring in top ten cities’ list.

The NCRB statics are enough to bow down the head of the State with shame as three cities of the state figure in the top ten list of crime against women in the country. As per the latest statistics of the NCRB, Gwalior is the most unsafe city for women in the country while Jabalpur is at number three and the state capital Bhopal is fifth most unsafe city for the fairer sex.

The topper as per the NCRB latest statics Gwalior has registered 73.9 per cent crime against women while the number three Jabalpur has registered 51.2 per cent and fifth in the chart Bhopal has registered 48.8 per cent crime against women. Notably, all the percentage of crime is taken from a population of one lakh. The other cities figuring in the list are New Delhi that is at number two, Durg — Bhilai Nagar at number four, Sri Nagar at number 6, Raipur at number 7, Kollam at number eight, Tripura at number nine and Vijayawada at number ten.

The shame came to the state despite the fact that on December 16, 2013 a special cell named Nirbhaya was formed for the women safety in the state and this Nirbhaya Patrolling Teams are working in all the fifty districts of the state. Madhya Pradesh is the first State of the country where a State-level policy for women was made and implemented. Here many schemes are run by the state government for women right from birth of girl child to their marriage.

Despite so much of efforts for women the crime rate against the women is continuously on the rise.
