A Hindi play Shakkar Ke Paanch Daane was staged at Madhya Pradesh State Tribal Museum here on Friday. The play was presented under the regular series of dramas ‘Abhinayan’.

Directed by Pradeep Verma, the play was performed by the artists of Admire Theatre Troupe, Bhopal. The play is written by actor, playwright Manav Kaul.

It is a story of a man named Raju who appears to be the ambitious person of the ordinary middle-class family. The actor narrates the story to the audience changing his character while talking with them, playing with the ants on stage.

This play somehow narrates the story of every person in the society who does not want much about life, nor any important ambition. They are just living life slowly on a pivot, but somewhere in the middle of a teas mind, it remains in the mind, to fulfill their suppressed desires.

As long as the person understands the point of his heart, he realises that he is deeply entangled in the cycle of existence of the society and his mind starts to get out of there. He gets entangled in the interference of his thoughts. He tries to fight the society and as always, the society wins and dreams lose.

Pradeep Verma and Kapil Patil acted brilliantly on stage. A simple stage design adds charm in the play. The light and sound design also help in creating an impression of a road, possibly of a highway, which is very close to where Raju lives. The final poetic denouement is neat, funny, reflective but unfortunately all too expected, all too perfect.
