Sewage tax and increased water cess awaits citizens

Published on:

Urban consumers of the state will have to pay sewerage tax and increased water charges from the new year. The civic body is estimating the amount spent per year in sewerage and solid waste and disposal. A committee will be formed at the body level to decide the tax. Rates will be fixed afresh in relation to water supply as well.

A surcharge will be levied on consumers based on the amount spent in sewerage treatment, operation and complaints related to it. For this, the government has fixed a parameter. A committee will be formed in Corporation, Municipality and Nagar Parishad for determination of surcharges. In corporation and city council, the chairman of the committee will be the urban administration commissioner, in the municipality, the divisional commissioner.

The civic bodies will have to insist on 100 per cent tax collection. With regard to recovery, they will conduct recovery campaigns every three months. If the amount is not recovered as per the expenditure, the bodies will have to do the remaining amount from their own funds. Apart from this, the amount of grant to these bodies will also be less than that of other bodies. Grading will be done according to tax collection of urban bodies.  Action will be taken against the concerned officers and employees of the body for continuous low grading.

While increasing the consumer charges, it will be kept in mind that the amount will not be increased by more than 15 percent in any financial year. Sewerage consumer charges will not be less than 40 percent of the water bill charged by the civic body. The surcharge per year will be determined on the basis of the carpet area of the plot/ house.
