Sessions over, no aid for SC/ST students

Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) students of Barkatullah University are still waiting for their scholarships even when the academic session is going to complete within few weeks.

Scholarships amounting to more than Rs1.5 crore have not been distributed. The tussle between two BU officers has resulted into delay in the distribution of the scholarship amount.

Hundreds of students of the BU affiliated colleges are still waiting for the scholarship amount but the BU officers are refusing to sanction the cheques and keep pushing the matter away from them.

Indira Priyadarshini College Principal Aqeel Khan said, “I have been approaching the University administration for the scholarship for last 10 days but still the amount has not been sanctioned. More than 30 per cent of our students have not been allotted amount even when deadline has crossed a fortnight ago.”

Registrar Sanjay Tiwari said that a nodal officer had been appointed on the orders of Tribal Welfare department around four years ago, as the scholarship is granted by them, in the SC-ST cell of the university to carry out this work only.

Deputy Registrar RK Chouhan has been given charge of SC-ST cell of university last month but defying the orders, he refused to carry out the scholarship distribution work.m It is worth mentioning that DR Chouhan has been given charge of SC-ST cell around a month ago but since then he has refused to distribute scholarship.

Tiwari further said that university administration is not distributing the scholarship from its funds instead university is just the medium between the scholarship granter – University Grant Commission (UGC), tribal welfare etc and students.

DR Chouhan feels that according to university Act, only Registrar has the authority to sanction or distribute any amount that is why any other officer cannot do so. In this regard he has notified Vice Chancellor Nisha Dubey and Registrar Sanjay Tiwari.

DR Chouhan said that it is Registrar’s responsibility and he has nothing to do with it. Both the officers are refusing to sanction the scholarship cheques and finally the students of deprived class are suffering.
