The Graduate Grooming Workshop concluded on Thursday with the session on International Cinema. The workshop was held at Maulana Azad Central library.

Renowned film critic and scriptwriter from the city Sudip Sohni conducted the workshop for the graduates. Sudip is an alumni of FTII, Pune. The 10-day workshop that concluded here on Thursday was organised by Civil Services Club, Bhopal.

As many as 200 youngsters were made aware about the world of cinema and also discussed about the story behind the making of films.

Notably the workshop was organised with the purpose of making the youth of Bhopal global citizens, this workshop was conducted by 9 experts, giving different learning and exposure.

While interacting with the graduates, Sudip said, “World cinema does not mean Hollywood which mostly people think.

But, best movies are made in every continent. Apart from India, there are better films made in Iran, Korea, Japan and other countries.”

'Arrival of the Train' was the world's first movie.

The world's first film was made in 1895 in Europe. In this 30-second film, only train’s arrival was shot and screened. In five years the cinema reached every home.

The film Bicikil Thief made in Italy in 1948, is considered to be the beginning of realistic cinema after which legends like Satyajit Ray and Bimal Roy rose in India.

Sudip further said that another fact that people don’t know is that the regional cinema is far better than Vollywood commercial movies. A movie like ‘Dhanak’ touched adience’s hearts which is a remake of a regional film. Besides, there was a time when Bengali cinema was considered to be the best movie in the country because of its content, but now Marathi has replaced it.

Marathi films like Court, Timepass and Sarat are many times better than Bollywood.

“A person sitting in a corner of the world judges the cinematic scenario of India, not with our commercial cinema, but with the quality of our parallel and regional cinema,” he added.

Basically, the art of convincing is the cinema. A good movie is that which can convince its audience that what they are watching is 100% truth and it really happens this way, said Sudip.
