With the arrival of monsoon into the city, cases of viral fever, cold and cough, diarrhoea, malaria and dengue have gone up. Around 500 patients suffering from these diseases are visiting the Jai Prakash Hospital of the city every day.
There is a considerable rise in the patients suffering from dengue and malaria in the State Capital. Water accumulated in the houses, roads, water tanks etc are the main reasons that help the dengue larva to breed. The areas of the city where most cases of dengue have been reported include TT Nagar, Mata Mandir, Arera Colony and Ishwar Nagar.
“A large number of dengue-suspected patients are regularly visiting the hospital,” said a doctor at the Jai Prakash Hospital , Dr PN Johri. “The situation is under control now. There is a steep decline in the number of patients suffering from dengue in last four days,” he added.
He further informed that there is a separate ward for the patients suffering from dengue. Keeping in mind the safety of other patients and staff, the bed of each dengue patient is covered with a mosquito net, he added.
He said the hospital has started an awareness programme for the patients to prevent further increase in the dengue cases. Malaria Department’s awareness campaigns have brought down number of patients suffering from malaria, he added.
Bhopal Municipal Corporation has started a cleanliness drive and campaign to prevent the further spread of dengue and malaria. Temephos and other medicines are also sprayed in the city to control the spread of malaria. BMC has begun a door-to-door campaign to inform about the diseases spreading in the city and the ways to prevent them.
