The Special Police Establishment of Lokayukta on Wednesday caught red-handed a sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) posted in Narsinghpur district while accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh. The accused has been identified as RK Vanshkar. Later, the officials searched his office and house for important documents.
The SPE had received complaint from a local Congress leader Surendra Rai that SDM (Gotegaon) Vanshkar was demanding Rs 2 lakh for processing a mining lease in his region. SDM was arrested immediately after he accepted the bribe.
Police officials said that additionally Rs 2.65 lakhs in cash were recovered from his house other than the bribe money.
