'Scindia's crocodile tears won't impact farmers: BJP

Published on:

Holding the Congress responsible for the plight of farmers in the State and the country, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief spokesman for Madhya Pradesh Deepak Vijaywargiya reacting over senior Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia’s statement over plight of farmers hit back and said that the crocodile tears of Scindia would not succeed in emotional tapping of the farmers.

Vijaywargiya in a statement here on Wednesday said, “During the past five decades Congress ruled the country and most of the states and during its rule the five years plans gave priority to the industries and marginalized the farmers due to that the contribution of farming that was 54 per cent at the time of freedom of country in the GDP came down to just 15 per cent. Senior congress leader and former union minister Scindia would not be able to emotionally tap the farmers of the country and state by shedding crocodile tears.” Vijaywargiya further said that when BJP came to power in the country for the first time under the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee it made villages, poor and farmers its axis while Prime Minister Narendra Modi by making government partner in the risk of farmers gifted Prime Minister Crop Insurance scheme to the farming community of the country. Whatever insurance schemes were made since independence it was never that more than 23 per cent farmers got insured while PM Modi has implemented the scheme that would bring all the 14 crore farmer families of the state under the ambit of crop insurance, he added.

He said the Prime Minister has given top priority to complete 99 major medium irrigation schemes within three years under the PMIrrigation scheme that would turn out to be boon for the farmers. Congress has only used farmers as vote banks and it only remembers them when elections come, he added.
