Scindias at loggerheads over Shivpur water crisis

Former Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and his aunt Yashodhara Raje Scindia, who is Industry Minister in the State government, are at loggerheads over the water crisis in Shivpuri. The residents in Shivpuri have been agitating for past few days as there is acute shortage of the water in the town and there is no permanent solution to it till date.

A project regarding bringing water from Madikheda dam was prepared earlier and the works initiated, but for quite some time, the work could not move an inch. A couple of days ago, when Industry Minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia visited Shivpuri, which is her constituency, she told people that she was with the citizens and supporter their demand of accelerating the works related to bringing dam water to Shivpuri. She told that she would take initiatives and convene a meeting of officials from different departments and with the help of Chief Secretary, would certainly take concrete steps.

However, on Friday, Jyotiraditya Scindia, who is at present on foreign tour, issued a statement, asking Congress legislators of the region to take initiatives in connection with the water problems being faced. He said, “During the mid-term election in Shivpuri, state assembly I had promised to the citizens of Shivpuri in 2007 that I would get the Madikhera dam water project sanctioned from Centre to solve the drinking water problem. Accordingly I got the project of Rs 64 crore sanctioned in 2008. But unfortunately the implementation of the project is in the hands of State government, who creates obstruction in its implementation.” He stated that the State government has been causing hurdles in every project. “like, I had got a scheme of pipeline from Madhav National Park area of central environment ministry (National Wild life board) but the officers of State government and municipal committee owned by BJP did not demand permission to cut the tree,” he said, adding that the matter is under consideration of special committee of Supreme Court. It is expected that this permission would received in the month of July.

Some people in state BJP government do not want to implement the water project, sever project, medical college, engineering college, national power institute and the Polytechnic College etc. They think that if these projects are implemented their own inability would be exposed.
