In a first, Rajya Sabha MP Jyotiraditya Scindia will be sharing the stage with Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Union Cabinet Minister Narendra Singh Tomar in Gwalior on Saturday during a membership campaign. This will be Scindia’s first visit to his home city after becoming the Rajya Sabha member.

According to sources in the BJP, the membership campaign along with booth level interactions will run from August 22 to 24 at various parts of Gwalior Chambal Division. Sixteen meetings are scheduled in the 26 assembly segments of the Gwalior Chambal Division and during these meetings former Congress leaders and primary members will be issued the formal BJP membership.

The sources further said that those who had resigned from the Congress along with Scindia six months ago have been known as Scindia loyalists till now, but now they will be made full time BJP members.  They added that Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Cabinet Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and BJP State president B D Sharma will join Scindia in welcoming these leaders and supporters to the party fold at these functions.

Meanwhile, the Congress has threatened to hold sit in dharnas at various places against these meetings during the coronavirus pandemic. Sources in the party said that on the one hand the Government is urging people to avoid mass gatherings to check the spread of Covid-19 and on the other hand the Government itself is flouting the health department’s guidelines by organizing political rallies and such gatherings.

They further warned that these meetings have the potential to aggravate the already serious Covid-19 situation the area.
