Chief Health Officer of Gwalior Municipal Corporation, Satyapal Singh Chauhan conducted a cleanliness inspection of the South Assembly Constituency area of the city on Monday.
During the inspection, it was found that the Ward Health Officer, Rakesh Karousia was absent from duty without prior intimation or permission while the Assistant WHO, Narayan was present and supervising the cleanliness operations in the area. The Chief Health Officer called the WHO on his mobile and the latter reached the spot after a gap almost 40 minutes. Even while he was giving excuses for his absence the CHO relieved him of his duties as WHO and attached him to the office.
Out of the 41 workers, 10 were found missing and the CHO instructed the Assistant WHO to immediately call them for work. The CHO also called the Assistant Health Officer of the South Assembly Constituency area, cautioning him for his negligence in the cleaning work and asking him to mend ways or face the consequences.
For some time now the Corporation has been receiving repeated complaints from the residents of the South Assembly Constituency area about the unhygienic conditions in their area thanks to the huge accumulation of garbage. The unattended garbage, the potholes and other civic issues have been creating havoc with the lives of the citizens of the area. A resident of the area said that the accumulated garbage is choking the drains, causing a lot of nuisance and hardship in the area. He added that the drains are fast becoming breeding centers of the deadly mosquitoes.
He also said that water leakage on the road, causing huge loss of drinking water is a regular thing here. It is also causing many terminal diseases as the contaminated water is being sucked in by the water pumps in the houses of the locality where the filthy water is used for drinking and cooking.
