Sanjana Singh, 36, has recently joined as Personal Secretary of the Director Social Justice and Disabled Persons Welfare in Bhopal. With this, Madhya Pradesh has scripted history as she is the first transgender government officer in the State.

Delighted over the achievement, Sanjana who was force to abandon her family at the age of 15 and join a transgender group says eventually she has achieved his ‘due place in society’. Not only her family even transgender community had abandoned her after she declined to be part of the group which visits houses and seeks money during celebrations and festivals.

Blessed with the craving for social welfare, Sanjana had associated herself with an NGO and was working for child and women health since 2008.

Before her present posting, Sanjana had become the first para-legal volunteer of District Legal Services Tribunal and was also nominated member of the Lok Adalat of the tribunal and used to hear cases in the company of several judges.

Now a government officer, she affirms being a transgender is no less than a cruse in the country where third gender has no social acceptance. Thanking MP government for having offered her the chance to live a respectable life, Sanjana conveyed a message to the community saying transgender should also come forward and contribute to the society while identifying their own capabilities

She however underlined the need for offering more chances of jobs, trade and business to the community so that they could be brought to the society mainstream.

In 2015, she had popped up into limelight after she and her team had vigorously campaigned against open defecation in Madhya Pradesh.
