Steel Authority of India limited (SAIl) on Saturday terminated Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha parliamentarian Satyanarayan Jatiya’s son Rajkumar from its services. Besides Jatiya, the axe of the SAIl also fell on twenty others including Jharkhand Governor Syed Sibte Hasan Rizvi’s son SM Razi.
The SAIl action came after three weeks of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raids at Jatiya’s house in connection with the irregularities in the appointment. Both Jatiya junior and Razi were working as junior managers in the Bokaro Steel Plant. CBI is investigating the irregularities committed in these recruitments between 2004 and 2009. CBI had recently conducted raids at many places including residence of Jatiya in Bhopal on January 28 and seized documents related to the recruitment besides registering a criminal case pertaining to this recruitment scam.
SAIl terminated Jatiya junior, Razi and twenty others including retired judge DG Patnaik’s son Yogeshchandra and former MD BK Singh’s son Ritesh Singh on this basis. Jatiya senior had filed his nomination papers for the upper house of parliament on a day before the CBI raids were made at his residence. After the raids he had claimed before the media that his son is innocent and that nothing wrong was done in his appointment and that when his son was appointed at that time there was Congress led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the centre.
Notably, CBI had raided at 33 places including Bhopal in last month in this connection. The raid at Jatiya’s house was made exactly a day after Satyanarayan Jatiya fled nomination for the Rajya Sabha from BJP. It was also alleged that Jatiya senior misused his position for getting job for his son. During the raid CBI asked for the documents related with the appointment of Jatiya junior in Bokaro Steel Plant and seized those documents. The CBI has registered two cases in the recruitment scam.
