With a view to ensure the safety of children travelling to schools in autos and buses, the RTO has issued an advisory to parents. The advisory aims at ensuring the involvement of parents towards safety of children while commuting from and to schools.

As the schools in the city prepare to reopen for the new academic session, the RTO and the police have began to take steps to ensure the safety of children. The RTO has cautioned parents about the hazards of using LPG fuelled autos and vans, as the unsafe LPG cylinders are at risk of catching fire easily. The parents have also been asked to avoid double fuel autos and other vehicles.

The advisory also asks the parents to make sure that the concerned driver has a license and valid authorization card. According to the RTO advisory, autos are permitted to ferry only 5 children under the age of 12 and 3 above that age.

The RTO has advised the parents to make sure that the autos do not ferry more children. In this connection, the RTO has also written to the DEO asking him to ensure that the schools adhere to the guidelines set by the Supreme Court in this matter.

Parents of school going children in the city have been facing problems finding suitable mode of transportation for their children. Auto-rickshaws, vans and school buses are the modes of transport available in the city but most of these vehicles are 10 to 15-year-old and unsafe for commuting.

Speaking to the media persons, MP Singh, the RTO said that strict action will be taken if autos and vans do not adhere to the directives that are set. Regarding the old vehicles he said that no vehicle will be allowed on the roads without the proper fitness certificate. The RTO also said that a meeting of all the directors of city schools will be held in the RTO office on the 25 th of this month to discuss and finalize all matters related to this.
