As the financial year is coming to an end and with the government facing a severe cash crunch due to the empty coffers, the district administration has set revenue collection target of Rs 75 crore for the ongoing fiscal year.
Briefing the media persons, Gwalior District Collector Bharat Yadav said that instructions have been sent out to all departments to complete this target within the stipulated time.
According to reliable statistics the state is reeling under severe financial crisis because the official machinery has not been collecting the full revenue during the past many years.
Even last year only Rs 33 crore was collected in the district against the recovery target of Rs 75 crore.
There have been many instances where the authorities failed to collect the pecuniary fines that were imposed for various offences like nonpayment of taxes, irregularities in registration and diversion fees.
Many marriage gardens in the city are still running without paying the diversion fees and penalties.
Whether it is due to the political situation or the laxity of the concerned authorities the fact remains that the tax machinery has not been able to achieve the assigned revenue collection targets for many years now.
The current financial year is almost coming to an end but the total recovery till date is only Rs 14 crore.
It would be a herculean task for the administration to collect the remaining Rs 60 crore in two months.
The authorities are hoping to amass a major portion of the target during the Revenue Lok Adalat to be held in the district on the 16th of this month.
