Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) had levied a Rs 10,000 spot fine on an under-construction building at Malviya Nagar for improper disposal of construction and demolition (C&D) waste.
The BMC said the building was penalised after municipal officials found construction debris lying around the site, which was not covered by the mandatory green nets.The civic body’s action comes in the wake of instructions issued by Municipal Commissioner Harendra Narayan, who has directed officials to take strict action against those refusing to conform to pollution guidelines at construction sites in the state capital.
Construction dust adds to the concentration of pollutants in breathable air, which has witnessed a considerable worsening since the onset of winter this year. Project supervisors at the construction site have been advised to adhere to municipal guidelines to avoid more stringent action in the future.
