A noted classical singer Riyaz Khan presented his live concert here on Thursday at Ravindra Bhavan Hall.
Riyaz is one of the noted classical singers of Kirana Gharana from Mumbai. He has travelled across the country with his melodious voice and has received appreciation by his fans. Recently he presented the classical ragas in one of the classical concerts ‘Aap Ki Farmayish’ organised in New Delhi in the memory of Jagjit Singh.
His mesmerising performance had magnetised the audience at the show. He began his performance with a ghazal Kabhi Kabhi Teri Palko Me Jhilmilaya from his album Sajda. His performances were followed with the ghazals like Baat kerni mujhe mushkil, Zindagi me sabhi pyar kerty hain, Ishq to hota hai rota hai kya aagey aggey dekhiye hota hai kya.
As he is an exponent in ghazal singing he also presented some of the compositions of Jagjit Singh. He presented Jagjit Singh’s ghazals like Hazaro khwahishien aisi, Aap ko dekhtey hi dekhta reh gaya and many more. As he began performing, his velvet voice captivated the attention of the audiences.
The innovation he brings into his compositions makes him different from others composers. As he began singing, the audiences were awestruck to witness the programme. He wonderfully blended classical tunes into the rhythm of classical music which was loved by the audience.
Talking about the ghazals, he says, “These days people are more interested in hip hop songs or DJ tracks and somewhere the ghazal gayaki is losing its importance. As earlier people used to listen to ghazals mostly, these days this passion for ghazals is diminishing somewhere. So, I really want people to get inclined towards it once again as ghazal gayaki has always been a melodious one in the thread of mild music.
Notably, this was his first live concert in Bhopal. “Bhopal is really beautiful and this is my first trip to Bhopal,” says Riyaz. It was a real treat for the classical music lovers who were present at Ravindra Bhavan Hall to witness the veteran of ghazal gayaki performing live. The audiences were astonished with the charm of his singing.
