Residents protest IMC demolition move

The removal gang of Indore Municipal Corporation had to face wrath of people of lodhi Mohalla and Jail road when it reached there on Thursday morning to remove encroachments from the locality.

Following repeated complaints of residents of lodhi Mohalla over encroachments, the IMC demolition squad led by assistant removal officer Virendra Upadhyay, Sudhir Gulwe, Umesh Patidar, Mahendra Singh Chouhan arrived at lodhi Mohalla at 10 am on Thursday and started demolishing illegal encroachments from there.

Hardly the demolition squad had removed about 10-12 illegal encroachments in the locality, a large number of residents of the locality including womenfolk arrived there and protested against removal of  encroachments from the area by the IMC demolition squad.

Apparently agitated over the IMC move, the residents of the locality had a heated argument with the IMC officials as well as the police jawans who were present there in large number to prevent any untoward incident. Residents of the locality accused the IMC officials of not removing encroachments from another lane of lodhi Mohalla and targeting their lane deliberately.

However, irrespective of the peoples’ protest, the IMC squad had already done away with a number of encroachments from the locality in the presence of police jawans.

The row over parking in lodhi Mohalla behind Jail road had been continuing for the past few days with MlA of the locality holding talks with the IMC officials in this regard on 3-4 occasions but to no avail.

The Congress MlA Ashwin Joshi in this regard had also led a delegation of residents and ghareod the IMC commissioner Rakesh Singh protesting against illegal parking in lodhipura but the IMC did not take any action on their complaint. The IMC four days back served notices on the residents of lodhipura mohalla for the removal of encroachments and accordingly reached the locality today for the demolition of illegal encroachments.
