During a surprise inspection by Rajiv Chaturvedi, Member, National Highways Authority of India, it was found that the quality of the repairs to the RoB near Rayru, Gwalior is below standard as substandard materials have been used for the renovation.

Finding lots of irregularities in the repair works and samples of materials used failing to meet the quality standards, the Member took to task the officials of the NHAI who were entrusted with the monitoring of the repair works. He told the officials of the NHAI who were present at the site that if this is how repairs are done, the condition of the road will continue to get from bad to worse and lives will continue to be put on the line.

Taking a serious view of the turn of events, the NHAI member called Anshuman Yadav, the IG of Gwalior seeking that action be taken against the contractor and all the concerned NHAI officials for substandard wok of the road and the RoB.

He told the IG that the inspection has exposed not only the poor construction standards but also the pilfering of public property in large quantity.

The officials of NHAI have failed to properly monitor the construction and resurfacing of the RoB and this has led to not only wastage of public money but also has forced the motorists to suffer poor road conditions.

The Member also told the IG that this is a clear case of criminal negligence which could trigger many tragedies and requested the IG to file FIRs against the contractor and the NHAI officials who have been entrusted with the monitoring of the repair works. The member further informed the IG that he would be sending an official communiqué as soon as he reaches Delhi.
